A majority of parliamentarians in Iran signed a letter to President Hassan Rouhani asking that Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif continue in his job, according to a member of parliament.
Spokesman for parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy commission Ali Najafi Khoshroodi said he had signed the letter and was collecting additional signatures, IRNA reported.
Earlier, Zarif went to Instagram in order to announce his resignation, apologizing "for all the shortcomings during the service".
The Iranian President's chief of staff Mahmoud Vaezi said earlier that Rouhani has not formally accepted Zarif's resignation.
