The head of Iraqi Kurdistan Massoud Barzani has spoken in an interview with the Al-Monitor portal about the possibility of holding a referendum on the autonomy’s independence this year.
The politician expressed his disappointment with the present policies of Baghdad, which deprived the Kurds of their own part of the budget and failed to carry out a number of other commitments. According to him, the situation in the region has two options for further development – to become an ordinary province of Iraq or to organize a referendum on independence, RIA Novosti reports.
