Israeli War Cabinet Minister Benny Gantz and War Cabinet observer Gadi Eisenkot resigned from the emergency unity government led by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“Today, we are leaving the emergency government," Gantz said.

Addressing a press conference in Tel Aviv, Gantz called on Netanyahu to hold early elections “as soon as possible.”

“I call on Netanyahu: set an agreed-on date for the elections,” he added.

Gantz had previously said he would leave the government by June 8 if Netanyahu did not formulate a new plan for postwar Gaza.
