Israel's Defense Minister Benny Gantz announced that Israel will begin trials of a COVID-19 vaccine right after the upcoming Jewish holidays which end on October 10.
In a statement posted on Facebook and Twitter, the minister noted that the trials would be carried out by Israel's Institute for Biological Research (IIBR).
"During the visit, I saw the progress. We will continue to make every effort to bring great news to humanity," the minister wrote.
Ganz added that the trials will be carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Health, and according to all the processes required in terms of medical safety.
Director General of IIBR Shmuel Shapira said that "we will start safe and efficient trials after the autumn holidays, but the product is in hand."
The IIBR recently said that the vaccine is based on new antibody that attacks and neutralizes the virus in the patient's body. The new antibody was produced from plasmas taken from recovered patients and animals, Xinhua reported.
