Today, Israeli President Isaac Herzog flew to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the first ever official visit, his office said.
"President Herzog went to the United Arab Emirates at the invitation of the de facto ruler of the United Arab Emirates and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The President will visit Abu Dhabi and Dubai and hold official meetings with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the UAE, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Emir of Dubai Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum", the statement said.
The two-day visit became possible due to the fact that in September 2020 in Washington, the Israeli side, with the active mediation of the United States, signed documents on the normalization of relations with the UAE and Bahrain. Before the conclusion of this tripartite deal, called "Abraham Accords", the Jewish state had diplomatic relations only with Egypt and Jordan from the Arab countries, Herzog said before the flight.
"I carry with me a message of peace to the whole region. Peace brings prosperity, progress and growth for the benefit of the peoples of the region", Herzog's office quotes his words
