Joe Biden announces 2020 run for president

Former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden has officially announced his candidacy for the 2020 U.S. presidential elections, the announcement was posted on his official Twitter account today.

"The core values of this nation… our standing in the world… our very democracy...everything that has made America - America - is at stake. That’s why today I’m announcing my candidacy for President of the United States," the politician wrote.

Biden is expected to make his first public appearance as a candidate on April 29 at an event in Pittsburgh featuring union members.

The first Democratic debate set for Miami, June 26-27. The Democratic National Convention is scheduled to take place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 13–16, 2020.

Biden, 76, starts as the leader of the pack in opinion polls of a Democratic field that now will total 20 contenders seeking the chance to challenge President Donald Trump, the likely Republican nominee, in November 2020.

The 2020 United States presidential election is scheduled for November 3, 2020.
