Kazakh Senate ratifies partnership agreement with EU

Kazakhstan’s upper house of parliament (Senate) has ratified the agreement on expanded partnership and cooperation between Kazakhstan and the European Union.

The Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerlan Idrisov has characterized the document as comprehensive, which covers the legal framework in all fields of mutual interest.

"The focus of enhanced cooperation in foreign and security policy will be in the spheres of regional stability, weapons of mass destruction, international cooperation in the fight against terrorism, conflict prevention and crisis management," TASS cited him as saying.

Idrissov said that the EU is currently "one of the biggest trading partners and investors for Kazakhstan".

Also, according to him, the implementation of the agreement "will give impetus to the promotion of issues which have had no solution for quite long time: the facilitation of a visa regime, granting a market economy status to Kazakhstan, and withdrawal of Kazakh airlines from the EU restrictive lists", the minister listed.

Recall, the agreement on expanded partnership and cooperation between Kazakhstan and the EU was signed in December 2015.
