Kazakhstan's Karachaganak oil output suspended due to scheduled maintenance

Oil production at the Karachaganak oil and gas field in Kazakhstan has been suspended from next week until October owing to maintenance, Kazakhstan's Energy Ministry said.

"There are plans to halt oil production at Karachaganak for planned maintenance at the field from September 12 to October 6," the ministry told Interfax.

The Karachaganak field is one of the largest worldwide, with oil reserves that total 1.2 billion tonnes, and gas reserves that total 1.35 trillion cubic meters. According to the PSA signed in 1997 and envisaged for 40 years, Karachaganak is being developed and conducted by an international consortium under KPO as part of Shell (SPB: RDS.A), 29.25%, through a 100% affiliated company, BG Karachaganak Limited; Eni, 29.25%; Chevron, 18%; Lukoil , 13.5%; and KazMunayGas, 10%.
