Kiev bans transit of Russian trucks through Ukraine

The Ukrainian government has banned transit of Russian trucks via Ukrainian territory, the government’s website said today.

"The Russian Federation, in violation of the rules and procedures of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the bilateral intergovernmental agreement on haulage by road on a unilateral basis, stopped movement of Ukrainian trucks on the territory of Russia. Until Russia presents explanations and the issue is settled, Ukraine temporarily suspends transit transportation by trucks registered in Russia on the territory of Ukraine," TASS cited the message as saying.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk, in his turn, said that the authorities demand to immediately restore traffic and that Kiev is holding consultations with EU members regarding the fulfillment of the WTO basic principles.

Earlier it was reported that more than 100 Russian trucks were blocked in 10 regions of Ukraine. In response to Ukraine’s actions, Russia suspended movement of Ukrainian trucks via Russian territory.
