Kobakhidze appointed head of Georgian Dream

Former speaker of the Georgian Parliament Irakli Kobakhidze was appointed as the new chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party. The delegates to the party's political congress unanimously elected him to the post of chairman.

400 delegates, 40 of whom are new members, participated in the congress.

Presenting Kobakhidze's candidacy for the post of head of Georgian Dream, the party secretary-general, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said that the ex-speaker is a suitable candidate to replace Bidzina Ivanishvili. "Of course, after Bidzina Ivanishvili, the politician of a huge scale, it is very difficult to occupy such a responsible position.  However, Irakli Kobakhidze is the best choice to lead our party from the excellent team created by Bidzina Ivanishvili," TASS quotes the politician as saying.
