Uzbekistan Railway Roads signed a contract with Hyundai Rotem for the purchase of electric trains during the visit of the South Korean President to Uzbekistan.

Contract for delivery of Hyundai Rotem electric trains to Uzbekistan is estimated at $195.7 million.

Hyundai Rotem will supply Uzbekistan with six high-speed electric trains with a total number of 42 cars. In addition, the South Korean company will provide maintenance and repair services for these trains, Trend reported.

This is the first export of high-speed trains developed using Korean technology in two decades since the French KTX train was introduced in 2004.

"This deal marks the first export of high-speed trains developed using Korean technology. It is expected to improve Uzbekistan's railway infrastructure and strengthen bilateral cooperation in the railway sector," South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol said.

Hyundai Rotem electric trains will be named after "Jaloliddin Manguberdi" and will run on the Tashkent-Urgench-Khiva route.
