Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen reaffirmed the importance of further dialogue on the intra-Syrian Constitutional Committee platform during their talks in Moscow Thursday.
"Special attention was paid to the topic of operation of the intra-Syrian Constitutional Committee, established under decision of the participants of the 2018 Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi. The sides reaffirmed the importance of continue rhythmic and fruitful dialogue on this platform," the Foreign Ministry said after the meeting.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the sides discussed pressing aspects of the complex Syrian settlement in detail. They also reviewed assistance in normalization of the social and economic situation in the Arab Republic.
"In this context, the sides noted the importance of provision of humanitarian aid to all Syrians in need, without discrimination, politicization or preconditions, based on respect for sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of the country," the Foreign Ministry said. "The sides underscored the need to ramp up international efforts in order to implement the projects of early reconstruction of the basic social infrastructure objects in the Syrian Arab Republic in accordance with the UN Security Council resolution 2642.".
