The lawyers of Jokhar Tsarnaev, who was sentenced to death for organizing or perpetrating the terrorist attack on the Boston Marathon in April 2013, intend to seek the cancellation of the decision of the court and the holding of a new trial for their client, but not in Boston this time.
"In the interests of justice, the court must appoint a new process in relation to a conviction and/or sentence, and the process should be conducted in another place," RIA Novosti quotes the text of their appeal.
The lawyers insist that the US government, which acted as a prosecutor in this process, could not fully prove the guilt of Jokhar Tsarnaev. They also note that the "long and relentless publicity" of the attack, attention to relatives of the suspect, as well as stories told by the victims of the terrorist act, prevent the court from being impartial.
