Mammadyarov to Lavrov: there are approaches to settle Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks in Baku with his Azerbaijani counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov.

Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister recalled that yesterday "a very interesting discussion was held at the meeting of Sergey Viktorovich [Lavrov] and the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev," the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza reports.

"We today discussed Russia’s role in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. I informed my Russian counterpart about the latest results of the negotiations on the conflict’s resolution," Mammadyarov noted.

Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister said that he had recently held discussions on concrete topics in Moscow.  "I told Lavrov that there are a number of approaches that can lead to progress on this issue,” the top Azerbaijani diplomat stressed.

Mammadyarov said that the status quo in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is unacceptable and unsustainable.

Lavrov said, in turn, that many areas that may lead to settlement of the situation in Nagorno Karabakh have been outlined already, and no one wants to continue the conflict.

"No one is satisfied with the conflict, and a solution should be sought for, all the more so because many areas that are expected to bring results have already been outlined," he stressed.

"Being one of the three OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmen, we will continue looking for mutually acceptable ways of peaceful settlement with regard to the developments that emerged during the recent meeting of the three co-chairmen - Russian, American and French - with the Azerbaijani and Armenian foreign ministers in Moscow," the Russian FM said.

The minister added that Russia sees no need to expand the OSCE Minsk Group format, as all steps, measures, arrangements on the resolution of the conflict are on the negotiating table.
