Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, addressing the question from Vestnik Kavkaza about Yerevan's demand to deploy an international mission on the sovereign territory of Azerbaijan - the Karabakh economic region - that this can only happen with the consent of Baku.

She drew attention to the fact that only the Armenian authorities want to see this mission in Azerbaijan.

"As for any new mission, consent is required of both Yerevan and Baku. And it hasn't been given - I mean the consent of the two sides," Maria Zakharova said.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry recalled that more than two years ago, Baku and Yerevan signed a document on the Russian mission in the Karabakh economic region. "In accordance with the statement of the leaders of the three countries dated November 9, 2020, a Russian peacekeeping contingent has been deployed in Karabakh. Our peacekeepers are making consistent efforts to ensure stability and security in the region, as well as prevent escalation," she stressed.

The diplomat also called for unconditional compliance with the existing trilateral agreements concluded with the participation of Russia, which is hampered by attempts to include new participants in the post-war processes.

"Much depends on the political will of the parties to resolve the remaining differences and search for solutions. It is important that they strictly observe all the tripartite agreements that determined the roadmap for the Armenian-Azerbaijani normalization," Maria Zakharova concluded.
