The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, addressed Azerbaijan, the Republican Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Paralympic Committee today with words of gratitude for the fact that Baku refused to take the Russian licenses to participate in the Paralympics in Rio.
"We are grateful to Baku, our Azerbaijani colleagues, the citizens of this country, because they understood and responded to the injustice of the situation with the Russian Paralympians. Now this support is very important for us,’’ she said.
"I repeat, they are trying to hurt people who have been fighting pain all their lives. With their lives and fates they have been trying show and prove that pain can be overcome. Therefore, all those who supported us, in particular our Azerbaijani colleagues, thank you very much!’’ Maria Zakharova concluded, a correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza reports.
Recall that the Russian team that won 237 Paralympic licenses was suspended from participating in the Paralympic Games in Rio, followed by the decision of the International Paralympic Committee to redistribute the Russian licenses to other countries. Azerbaijan officially declined them, expressing support for the Russian Paralympic movement.
