Might Tina Khidasheli be dismissed?

The Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili declared its readiness to take decisive actions if the confrontation within the ruling coalition "Georgian Dream" between the Minister of Defense Tina Khidasheli, a member of the Republican Party, and MP from the faction "Georgian Dream - Industrialists'' Gogi Topadze won't be resolved peacefully.

"I urge our political partners once again to solve disagreements within the coalition. Otherwise, being the leader of the coalition I will make changes to ensure stable functioning of the government and returning to the political processes," Sputnik Georgia cites him as saying.

"Politicians should have a more responsible attitude towards their actions and statements, as well as think about solving the population's problems. Our society deserves it," Kvirikashvili said.

A correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza interviewed the expert, the political scientist, the head of the Institute of management and strategy Petre Mamradze, the head of the Center for Global Studies Nana Devdariani and the member of the Expert Club of Georgia Vakhtang Maisaya about possible resignation of Tina Khidasheli.

Peter Mamradze considers that the resignation of the Minister of Defence is real.

"There are more than enough reasons to dismiss Khidasheli from the post of the Minister of Defence," he said.

The political scientist noted that Khidasheli makes, in his opinion, incorrect statements regarding the process of cooperation between Georgia and NATO.

"Firstly, she states that Georgia is joining NATO. Then she personally demands not a plan for membership in the alliance, but NATO membership, although our Western partners refuse it each time. Her behavior confirms that there is still feudalism in Georgia instead of democracy,'' Mamradze stated.

The opinion on the resignation of the head of the Defense Ministry is supported by Vakhtang Maisaya. He noted that Tina Khidasheli allowed risky political statements that went beyond the competence of the Defense Minister. "The situation is very tense. The political crisis has started," the expert said.

Nana Devdariani believes on the contrary that 'Georgian Dream' will hardly take the step to dismiss the Defense Minister on the threshold of the parliamentary elections. The republicans have "a big appetite, they compete for every seat. Their positions are serious now, especially after the 'Free Democrats' left the coalition,'' the expert recalled.

According to her, it is a more likely scenario that the prosecutor's office will examine the case of fraud in Sagarejo and reach a conclusion about the absence of a criminal offense. After that the situation will calm down.

"If they decide to reject somebody from the coalition, it will probably be Gogi Topadze, but won't be a wise decision on the threshold of the elections," Devdariani noted.
