McCain: Obama needs to give up his failed policy towards Iran

The chairman of the US Armed Services Committee, John McCain, has criticized the foreign policy of US President Barack Obama towards Iran.

He recalled that "it has been less than one month since the US Administration secured its nuclear deal with Iran" from the Congress' opportunity to reject it. Despite assurances from Obama, US Secretary of State John Kerry and others that this agreement could strengthen Iranian moderates, weaken hardliners, and open a new era of better relations between our nations, the opposite seems to be happening," he posted on his website.

According to McCain, "in just the past few weeks," Tehran sent hundreds of armed troops to support Syrian President Bashar Assad. In addition, Iran plans to acquire the Russian S-300 air defense system, he said.

The senator also believes that Tehran "has tested a new advanced long-range ballistic missile in violation of the UN Security Council resolution." However, "most disturbingly" he believes that Iran has convicted the US correspondent of the Washington Post in Tehran, Jason Rezaian.

"The President needs to give up on his failed policy of acquiescing to Iranian power and start doing significantly more to counter it," TASS cited McCain as saying.
