Medvedev: European officials must do everything possible to preserve friendship with Russia

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, during memorial events dedicated to the memory of Russian prisoners of war who died at the Vršič mountain pass during the First World War, has urged European officials to do everything possible to preserve friendship with Russia.

"The fact that today both Slovenians and Russians are participating in the ceremony tells about the continuation of friendship and this great tradition (to honor the memory), which is an indication of the special relations between our nations. I want to tell you directly that we highly value this. Politicians, all decision-makers in our countries, must do everything possible so that this friendship continues in the future, because people want it," he said.

The Prime Minister also expressed the opinion that Russian-Slovenian cooperation in recent years has strengthened. "It's not opportunistic cooperation," Medvedev stressed.

After the memorial events, Medvedev spoke with the audience briefly. Among them were Russian immigrants and Russians who specially went there from all over the country to commemorate their compatriots.
