Ministry for North Caucasus Affairs to be replaced with Federal Agency for North Caucasus Affairs?

North Ossetian senator Taimuraz Mamsurov proposed the initiative to create Federal Agency for North Caucasus Affairs as part of the new government.

It was previously reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin abolished the Russian Ministry for North Caucasus Affairs. Functions of the department were transferred to the Ministry of Economic Development.

"Functions of the Ministry for North Caucasus Affairs have been transferred to the Ministry of Economic Development. Maybe we should discuss creation of the Federal Agency for North Caucasus Affairs, so that our issues will be discussed at a proper level, otherwise the Ministry might pay less attention to them," senator said.

In turn, Federation Council speaker Valentina Matvienko offered lawmakers to prepare proper proposal.

"If senators from the region prepare an appeal to the government, it might be approved by the Cabinet of Ministers," she noted, agreeing that the development of the North Caucasus regionis extremely important.

In addition, according to Matvienko, it's necessary to maintain continuity in the work of the former ministry, RIA Novosti reports.
