Mohamed Morsi is on hunger strike because of health condition

Former President of Egypt Mohamed Morsi, who lost power as a result of a military coup on July 3rd 2013, has gone on hunger strike in prison: he fears that the prison food could kill him, according to the lawyer of the former president, Abd El-Maqsood.

Morsi is suffering from diabetes, and he has repeatedly asked for the necessary medical tests to be conducted to determine whether the prison ration corresponds to his diet, and whether it is necessary to tranfer him to a hospital, but his complaints remained without consideration, leading the former president decided to go on a hunger strike, Vesti reported.

Mohamed Morsi is serving a life sentence on charges of escaping from prison during the revolution of 2011 and participation in mass riots. In addition, the court sentenced him and other leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood movement to death for spying for foreign countries, Qatar in particular.

As long as court sessions against the former president continue, it is not clear how the conflict between the two punitive measures will be resolved.
