Moscow hosts 'Russia in 21st Century' forum

Moscow is hosting the fourth international forum titled 'Russia in the 21st Century: Global Challenges and Prospects for Development', organized by the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The participants of the forum will discuss the development of the Eurasian integration, modernization of the economy and the role of the regions.

Opening the forum, head of the Russian Economic Academy of Plekhanov, Viktor Grishin, noted the importance of these issues. "Under the overall theme we should address the issues of Eurasian integration against the background of global instability. Urgency is dictated not only by economics but also by the political point of view. Only by combining our efforts will we overcome this adversity," the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza cited him as saying.

"We see today that the legislation on customs relations is well established. But there are many problems in the trade, innovation and currency spheres," Grishin added.

The Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council, Ilyas Umakhanov, read out the message of the speaker of Russia’s Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko. "Currently, many challenges facing our country are aggravated. We can use the enormous potential of the Eurasian Economic Union. Removing barriers and dividing lines will be a powerful reserve," she said.

"The Integration Club is one of the mechanisms of interaction with the scientific community. I consider the accession of Armenia and Kyrgyzstan as fundamentally important. The need to create a common market doesn't cause any doubts today," the vice speaker noted.

"For obvious reasons, the opponents who consider integration as a threat to independence have united. Some of them prefer the EU, others see a threat to their national identities and languages. It is necessary to work on the education of the population," he believes.

Ilyas Umakhanov also expressed the view that "the advantage of inter-regional communications allows us to make contact directly, which provides a number of advantages."

The first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development, Anatoly Karpov, read out a message from the chairman of the State Duma, Sergei Naryshkin, who noted that "in this situation, deep analysis of the risks and threats will allow us to make a productive analysis and prevent their occurrence."

The Ambassador of Tajikistan to Moscow, Imomuddin Sattarov, stressed that "Russia is a key player in political and economic relations for us." "Tajikistan is actively developing relations with the regions of the Russian Federation. Next year a shopping and logistics centers for delivery of our products to Russia will be built," the diplomat said.

However, he complained that "veterinary, sanitary, phytosanitary norms have come into conflict with EEU rules."

The Deputy Director of the Federal Financial Monitoring Service, Galina Bobrysheva, noted that "today no one has any doubt that the globalization of economies creates the preconditions for the growth of transnational crime."

According to Bobrysheva, the new challenges are drug trafficking from Afghanistan and the Islamic State terrorist organization.

"On the basis of the UN Security Council resolution, the IS problem is going to a new level. The terrorists are increasingly beginning to use new types of payments: the internet, mass collection of donations, mobile payments. The topic of risks and threats is also a priority of the regional group," Galina Bobrysheva noted.
