The Russian authorities should monitor migration flows as the migrants may become a breeding ground for terrorists and recruiters, the chairman of the Tatarstan State Council, Farid Mukhametshin, said during a meeting of members of the Federation Council and State Duma deputies.
"We need an analysis of migration flows, because it is a breeding ground for terrorism. I do not advocate self-isolation, but we should regulate the system of staying for people from different countries. There are more than 70 thousand migrants in Tatarstan, the majority of them are Muslims, but there are also the adherents of radical Islam. We might reduce access to the Russian Federation for unsettled people with different views," he said.
Mukhametshin recalled that terrorism cannot be associated with Islam.
