Mysterious whole-stone sarcophagus found in Crimea

An empty sarcophagus of unknown origin carved from the solid stone was found by the expedition of the State Hermitage at the excavations of the ancient city of Mirmekiy in Kerch, the head of the expedition, Alexander Butyagin reported today.

“We discovered an unusual mysterious burial. Its unique because the grave is not laid out of plates, as usual, but is carved in a single piece of stone. This is a really small stone sarcophagus, which is unusual for such an ancient period time, ”RIA Novosti quotes him as saying.
