NATO may toughen sanctions against Russia if it fails to comply with the ceasefire agreement in the east of Ukraine. NATO parliamentarians appealed to their governments, asking them to consider the introduction of new sanctions.
As the website of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly says, a requirement to be ready to toughen sanctions if Russia fails to fulfill its obligations is contained in the draft resolution of the committee on the economy and security of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, which is due to be adopted on October 12 of this year at the plenary session of the organization, held this year in the Norwegian town of Stavanger.
According to the parliamentarians, the sanctions should be maintained until the Minsk ceasefire agreement is fully implemented. According to the project, NATO governments should provide full support to the Government of Ukraine and weaken the economic influence of Russia, reducing Europe's dependence on Russian oil and gas, Interfax reports.
