State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin described the opening of the Moscow Cathedral Mosque as a milestone event not only for Russia’s capital but for the whole Muslim world.
"Let the majestic look of the Moscow Grand Mosque become a symbol of the important role that Islam has always played in Russia’s history, as well as future joint achievements," Naryshkin said.
He also said that historical traditions of good-neighborliness and mutual respect between the different peoples of multireligious Russian society have for centuries been the basis for interethnic peace and accord.
