Launch ceremony of the final 5040th digital broadcasting facility in Russia was held today at the base of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Navy in the village of Vidyaevo, Murmansk Region.
It marked creation of the world's largest digital terrestrial television network across Russia.
The ceremony was attended by governor of the Murmansk region Marina Kovtun, deputy head of the Ministry of Communications and Mass Communications Alexei Volin, director general of the Russian television and radio broadcasting network Andrei Romanchenko and commander of the submarine forces of the Northern Fleet Arkady Romanov, RIA Novosti reports.
Launch of the last facility of the digital network in Vidyayevo means completion of construction of the entire digital infrastructure in Russia; now digital network is fully operational.
98.4% of the country's population are now able to watch 20 publicly accessible TV channels and three radio channels.
Remaining 1.6% of the population living outside coverage area of digital network will be able to watch 20 TV channels in digital quality free of charge thanks to satellite broadcasting.
Key advantages of digital television are high image and sound quality.
