Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said that he supports the UN Security Council's resolutions on withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the occupied Azerbaijani territories, speaking at the joint statement with the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev following their talks o April 3.
"In this connection, I once again emphasize that in the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict Kazakhstan adheres to the resolutions adopted by the United Nations. Kazakhstan maintains good relations with Azerbaijan, as well as both Armenia and Georgia. And we would like to see peace there and the peaceful resolution of the conflict. We are doing everything that we can do here, offering all countries to solve this issue peacefully," the President of Kazakhstan called on.
Ilham Aliyev in his statement stressed that Astana and Baku are actively strengthening their bilateral cooperation. "Bilateral relations between our countries have a solid foundation, this year we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries, although the history of interaction between our peoples is estimated for centuries," the official website cited Aliyev as saying.
He explained that Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan are strengthening bilateral cooperation. "Today's visit of Nursultan Nazarbayev and the signed documents testify to the very strong ties between our countries. We are very active in developing political interaction, we meet within the framework of official visits and in the framework of international events very often," the Azerbaijani President stressed.
"First of all, I want to congratulate you once again on the occasion of Kazakhstan’s election as a member of the UN Security Council. This means recognizing the role of Kazakhstan in issues of global scale, your personal authority and the initiatives you put forward to strengthen peace not only in our region, but also worldwide. I would also like to express Kazakhstan my gratitude for the support of Azerbaijan in those international structures in which Azerbaijan is not represented,” President Aliyev stressed.
According to him, they discussed issues related to the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. "I informed Nursultan Abishevich about the current situation in the settlement. Our position is also reflected in the Joint Declaration, which was just signed. The conflict must be resolved within the norms and principles of international law, decisions, resolutions of international organizations, primarily the UN Security Council, which adopted four resolutions demanding the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian forces from the occupied territories. The decision must be taken within the framework of the sovereignty, internationally recognized borders and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and these main points of settlement are reflected in the Declaration signed today. This is another sign of Kazakhstan's principled position on the settlement of the conflict,” the Azerbaijani President stressed.
It was noted that the 14th meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan is due to take place in Baku in May in order to increase the trade turnover between the two countries.
Aliyev drew attention to the importance of preparing the "road map" for specific areas and areas.
The President also said that issues related to transit were considered in the framework of the meetings.
"We have great potential, and in the near future it will be fully utilized. We plan that the commissioning of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway will be held this year. It was also noted that a few days ago the first cargo was shipped from the new port of Kuryk to Azerbaijan. We also noted that during the past year the transit of goods from neighboring countries through Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan has significantly increased," Ilham Aliyev emphasized.
Another topic of the meetings, according to him, was cooperation in the oil sphere. "And, of course, cooperation in the humanitarian sphere was also discussed," President Aliyev concluded.
