The new Arab League Secretary General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, said that he intends to raise the role of the League as a regional organization and reduce differences between the Arab countries.
The Council of Ministers of the Arab League yesterday voted unanimously in favor of 73-year-old Egypt's foreign minister Aboul Gheit.
The current Secretary General Nabil el-Araby said last month that he would not seek another term after his current one ends on July 1, RIA Novosti reminds.
