New Year holidays in Armenia may be cut

Armenia's government intends to cut New Year holidays.

The government-proposed amendments to the law on holidays and memorable days will be discussed at the next cabinet meeting on December 14 and then they will be put on the National Assembly’s floor. The decision will come into force on June 1, 2018, if approved by the parliament.

The government proposes to consider January 3, 4 and 5 non-business days.

"Under the labor code, the minimum duration of an annual vacation in Armenia is 28 consecutive days, when the job is preserved and the average salary is paid, ARKA cited the government as saying. "If we add 15 non-business days – national holidays and memorable days, we will have 43 paid off-days a year."
