Armenian President Vahagn Khachatryan has appointed today Armen Pambukhchyan as new Minister of Emergency Situations.
Prior to this appointment Pambukhchyan served as first deputy minister. He is a member of the pro-government Civil Contract party.
Pambukhchyan is replacing Andranik Piloyan, who was arrested earlier on charges of corruption. Piloyan along with a group of his former subordinates are accused, in particular, of numerous cases of extorting and receiving large-scale bribes, embezzlement and receipt of illegal rewards.
Piloyan, a retired army general, served as head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations since July 7, 2020.
