The day before, thousands of Iranians went to the cemetery in Karaj to commemorate the 40th day of mourning for Hadis Najafi, who died during a protest near Tehran. The police blocked the entrance to the cemetery, which led to a new wave of violent clashes with protesters.
In response, the demonstrators blocked the highway in Karaj, set fire to parked cars and shouted anti-government slogans, including the overthrow of Khamenei.
Let us remind you that last week, Iranian police opened fire on a large crowd of protesters who had gathered in honor of the 40th day of mourning for Mahsa Amini, whose death triggered mass protests in Iran.
