Armenia will not hold snap parliamentary elections - this was the result of a three-month struggle between the government and the opposition after the defeat of the Armenian occupation forces in the Karabakh war.
Representatives of the "My Step" said at a meeting with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan that the parliamentary opposition (the "Prosperous Armenia" and "Enlightened Armenia" parties) did not support the proposal to hold snap parliamentary elections, and society was indifferent to this initiative.
Meanwhile, the demand to hold snap parliamentary elections was the second point of every protest action for three months after the demand for the immediate resignation of Nikol Pashinyan.
The present developments clearly show that the key forces of the anti-Pashinyan movement failed to win this internal, political war - on the contrary, Nikol Pashinyan came out a winner, at least at this first stage.
The answer lies on the surface: during this time, the opposition was unable to offer voters any intelligible alternative to the current Armenian government. It wasn't possible, since the "war party" of the instigators of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Robert Kocharian and Serzh Sargsyan, was actively inciting protests, all its programs were based on the promise of the inevitability and infinity of military confrontation with Azerbaijan, arguing that the war being the basis of the Armenian statehood.
The war with Azerbaijan really underlies the Armenian statehood that Kocharyan, Sargsyan and their Karabakh clan have been building since the 1990s. However, Armenia already said 'no' to this approach in the spring of 2018, when the 'Velvet Revolution' took place, forcing Serzh Sargsyan to resign from the post of Prime Minister. Nikol Pashinyan then came to power almost by accident, people voted for him only because he had nothing to do with the Karabakh clan.
Today, almost three years later, this principle has not gone anywhere. Of course, looking at Nikol Pashinyan, many citizens of Armenia think that the country needs a more professional leader, but now there is simply no one to replace him.
At first, the opposition tried to formally disguise itself by nominating Vazgen Manukyan as its candidate, but it is not a secret for anyone in Armenia that he is still a representative of the "war party".
When it became clear that the 'Vazgen Manukyan' project had failed, the "war party" nominated Robert Kocharian, the architect of modern Armenian fascism and the guarantor of aggression against Azerbaijan.
And this event fundamentally clarified the state of affairs in Armenia's political field: no matter how bad Nikol Pashinyan is, the people who are trying to displace him are even worse.
Therefore, it is not surprising that the government decided to abandon the idea of snap parliamentary elections - there is simply no need for them now, when the country needs a guaranteed implementation of the November Statement of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia, which ended the war and opened the way to peace in the South Caucasus.
