No agreement on anti-Russian sanctions in world

Some longtime US allies and satellite countries continue to reject Washington's persistent calls to impose sanctions on Russia or to criticize Moscow, the British magazine The Economist notes.

Despite the pressure, India, Turkey, Mexico, Brazil refuse to support anti-Russian sanctions. The publication sees several reasons for this position of these countries, such as fear of rising world prices for food and energy, their own commercial interests, ideological reasons, strategic ambitions, fear.

India has traditionally maintained neutrality in global conflicts. Besides, the country depends on military supplies from Russia.

Turkey purchases 45% of its gas from Russia and also has military contacts with Moscow.

In early April, Brazil and Mexico abstained from voting on Russia's expulsion from the UN Human Rights Council, The Economist points out. In early March, almost half (25 out of 54) African states abstained from voting condemning the military operation in Ukraine and demanding that Russia withdraw its troops.

In this way, countries that vote no or abstain can express their dissatisfaction with "the West's obsession with conflict in Europe, which is not a truly global problem", there are also conflicts and human rights violations elsewhere in the world, but their importance is underestimated or ignored.
