The apparatus of the Russian Commissioner for Human Rights received only 3% of the total number of complaints in the country from the North Caucasus Federal District, Ombudsman of the Russian Federation Ella Pamfilova reported.
"There were not many complaints from the North Caucasus, fewer than from other regions. We received 637 complaints from the district this year, which accounts for 3.3% of the total amount from the country," Pamfilova said at today's meeting of the Coordination Council of Commissioners for Human Rights in the constituent parts of the North Caucasian Federal District
47% of the total number of complaints in Russia concern human rights observance in the criminal justice system – arrests, detentions, interrogations and fair trials, and 17% of the complaints relate to matters of housing rights. In particular, 34 appeals were received from Kabardino-Balkaria, Interfax reports.
In his turn, the Commissioner for Human Rights in Kabardino-Balkaria, Boris Zumakulov, reported that he had received 1200 complaints. "It says that people know about you and trust you, and issues are addressed at the regional level," Pamfilova noted.
The head of Ingushetia, Yunus-bek Yevkurov, in conversation with a correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza emphasized that in recent years, the human rights situation has indeed improved drastically. "4-8 years ago in Ingushetia alone there was a huge number of complaints: kidnappings, violations of rights, torture, and so on. Within two years, there was not even one such complaint, because the situation has stabilized," he said.
"At the same time, we must admit that there are still, not exactly complaints, but appeals of citizens in terms of improving social conditions, including access to schools and kindergartens," the head of Ingushetia specified.
