President Barack Obama has assessed Russia's policy aimed at supporting the regime of Bashar al-Assad in Syria as a ‘losing position’, White House spokesman Josh Ernest said.
According to him, during the meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Obama "will emphasize that a doubling of support for the Assad regime by Russia is a losing position." "It doesn’t correspond to the interests of the Russian and American people," Ernest claimed.
The White House expressed the viewpoint that the negotiations between Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama will become the basis for a better coordination, RIA Novosti reports.
It is expected that the President of the United States will invite Russia to join the existing coalition against Islamic State.
