A telephone conversation took place yesterday between the Presidents of the US and Turkey, Barack Obama and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, they discussed the fight against the Islamic State militant group and the situation in Syria.
"The US president reiterated his condemnation of the October 10 terrorist attack in Ankara and condolences to the relatives and friends of the victims, as well as pledged solidarity in the face of the security threats Turkey faces," RIA Novosti cited the statement of the White House.
The two leaders reaffirmed their shared goal of stepping up military pressure on Islamic State and strengthening moderate opposition elements in Syria to create conditions for a negotiated solution to the conflict, including a political transition.
Obama and Erdogan also noted the positive momentum toward a negotiated settlement in Cyprus. In addition, the sides discussed the agenda for the upcoming G20 Summit in Antalya.
