Obama delivers his last speech to Congress

US President Barack Obama has delivered his last State of the Union speech to Congress.

Obama stressed the need to fight the terrorist threat. He said that the modern international security system, formed in the postwar period, now faces new challenges. According to the US leader, it is threatened less by "evil empires and more by failing states."

He said that another danger for the system is instability in the Middle East, "economic headwinds from a Chinese economy," as well as the actions of Russia, which is "pouring resources in to prop up Ukraine and Syria, client states that they saw slipping away from their orbit."

Thus, Obama believes that the international security system is facing "new realities," and the most important thing is elimination of the terrorist threat. "Both Al Qaida and now Daesh pose a direct threat to our people and should be eliminated," he said.

The President said that the US plans to continue to address the major international issues through the coalitions.

He stressed that the US will act alone, if necessary, to protect its people, but "on issues of global concern, we will mobilize the world to work with us."
