In an interview with Vestnik Kavkaza, legendary Uzbek gymnast Oksana Chusovitina admitted that she was very pleased with second place in the vault exercises of the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Baku, thanking the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation for organization of such high-level tournament.
"I'm very pleased. Right now I want to qualify the Olympics, I will try all possible options. Since I don't have a team, it's a little bit easier for me to qualify compared to gymnasts from other countries - I can get license both at the World Championships and the World Cups,” she said.
“I have a dream which I want to achieve, and I hope that it will come true,” she added. If she will get her license, she will become the only athlete in the world who participated in eight Olympic Games.
Oksana Chusovitina also discussed some prejudices about artistic gymnastics. “I will never agree that artistic gymnastics is the worst sport for women. Gymnastics is a basic sport for all other sports. If someone did gymnastics, he can then go to any sport. And I consider gymnastics to be the most beautiful sport,” legendary athlete said.
The FIG Artistic Gymnastics Individual Apparatus World Cup is being held at the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku and brings together the strongest gymnasts from 41 countries.
The competition is important for athletes who want to get to the Summer Olympics in Tokyo in 2020. Qualifications were held during the first two days of the four-day competition
