Today political analyst, Doctor of Historical Sciences Oleg Kuznetsov presented a new book "transnational history of Armenian terrorism in the XX century" at the Moscow Central House of Journalists, a 'Vestnik Kavkaza' correspondent interviewed the author on the sidelines of the presentation.
"The essence of the book is a scientific study of genre, historical and terminological literature. In the phrase "history of transnational Armenian terrorism" the keyword for me is terrorism'' "Terrorism is a very specific and diversified phenomenon. Each of the varieties of unlawful phenomenon has their distinctive features, specific mechanisms, different origins and financing their objects of criminal influence because any terrorist activity is classified in a certain scale. Of course, transnational Armenian terrorism is one of the segments of this scale," the analyst said.
"Nobody before carried this study earlier in Russia. Maybe due to political reasons, or any other reasons. However, I have done this work and now I address it to the whole segments of professional groups. Above all, security officers and law enforcement agencies then state employees, especially the people involved in law-making and law-making process, as well as professional historians, and perhaps politicians who determine the life of our country,'' Oleg Kuznetsov said.
"When I began to prepare materials on this subject I collected a large library. Basically, these works were published in Turkey that was the target of terrorist attacks by various organizations of the Armenian nationalists, as well as in the US that put the Armenian nationalism in the service of their geopolitical interest in the early 1980s. The two countries paid close attention to the study of the Armenian transnational terrorism in the two countries. About 60 60 serious scientific researches were published (I know 45 of them). Maybe that's why it was difficult to begin this work, as we had to use all their knowledge of English legal language in order to translate from foreign languages into Russian for the understanding of theoretical approaches of studying of this subject,'' the historian said.
"How did it begin? The fact is that some time ago I was involved in with law enforcement and I was one of the representatives of working group who was involved in the modernization of the Russian criminal legislation in the field of combating terrorist crimes. Then the upgrade rights modernization was the starting point for interest certain varieties of terrorist activities, primarily national. Why? Because we all know that the North Caucasus was the region of the terrorist attacks. As a professional historian I wanted I would like to find out what is the beginning of this phenomenon and why it happened in Russia. It was found that in 1977 the first explosion in the Moscow metro committed neither by Chechen, nor Islamic, but Armenian terrorists. So it was necessary to learn the Armenian nationalism, and then understand the ideology of the Armenian political parties at the beginning of the XX century that declared terrorism as means to achieve or the struggle for the acquisition of the national statehood," Oleg Kuznetsov said.
"Earlier, such information was not published in Russian at all, that is why all 420 pages of this book for Russian and Russian-speaking readers are simply a revelation," - said the author, adding that the circulation of the book is only 100 copies,'' Oleg Kuznetsov concluded.
