Today Baku is hosting the conference titled 'State and prospects of the Azerbaijani-Russian cooperation in the fields of education, science and culture.
" Azerbaijan pays great attention to the study of Russian language and literature at the state level," the Azerbaijani Education Minister Mikail Jabbarov said at the opening of the conference. He noted that about 90,000 students are currently receiving education in Russian in Azerbaijan’s secondary schools.
The minister also recalled that "in recent years, the two branches of the prestigious Russian universities have been established in Baku with the support of the government - the Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov and the Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University".
Mikail Jabbarov emphasized the role of the Russian-Azerbaijani Association of Education, noting that it is a good platform for interaction between the universities of the two countries and the successful implementation of joint projects in the sphere of education.
According to the Azerbaijani Education Minister, an exchange of experience and defining priorities for further cooperation are important.
Russia’s Education and Science Minister Olga Vasilyeva, speaking at the conference, said that the Russian side is interested in developing cooperation in the field of education with Azerbaijan, an exchange of experience in training.
The head of the Russian Ministry of Education said that about 14,000 Azerbaijani citizens are studying in Russian high schools, the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza reports. In addition, the two largest Russian universities teach Azerbaijani language, while in 2015, the number of purples in Azerbaijani schools studying in Russian has increased by 15%, in universities by 10%.
The conference was attended by the head of the department for humanitarian policy of the presidential administration of Azerbaijan, Fatma Abdullazadeh, the Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfas Garayev, the President of ANAS Akif Alizadeh, as well as rectors of universities and other educational institutions of the two countries.
The opening of the new building of the branch of the Azerbaijan State Economic University (UNEC) in Derbent was timed to the meeting of the two ministers. Olga Vasleva and Mikail Jabbarov held a video conference with the rector of the university Adalat Muradov.
Olga Vasilyeva congratulated Derbent on the opening of the new building of the UNEC branch. Mikail Jabbarov, in turn, stressed that this event should be considered in the context of the Russian-Azerbaijani relations.
