Over 100 protesters injured in Beirut

Over 100 protesters were injured in central Beirut Saturday during demonstrations demanding justice for victims of the devastating Beirut blast that shattered half the city, The Daily Star informs.

Security forces fired volleys of tear gas and rubber bullets at rioters trying to break though the barriers at the north and south entrances to Nejmeh Square, where Parliament is located.

The Lebanese Red Cross announced that 109 demonstrators had been injured in the clashes, during which protesters hurled rocks and other debris from the blast at security forces, The Daily Star reports.

It added that 22 of those injured had been taken to hospital, while 87 were treated onsite. It deployed 23 medical teams to the site of the clashes.
