Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that the calls voiced by the opposition to change the power following the joint statement of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia on the cessation of hostilities in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone do not receive the support of the Armenian society.
He admitted that there's "internal political tension" in the republic. But according to him, "the calls made by the opposition have not received a wide response among the Armenian society".
"The issue of power, which was formed by the people, can be solved only by the will of the people," TASS cited him as saying.
Pashinyan, moreover, noted that many people and he personally do not like the current situation, but there is an understanding among the public that there was no other choice. "Honestly, I am not so satisfied either, we are all dissatisfied with the situation that has been created at us. But we must realize what alternatives we have. We must work so that the situation does not worsen, but stabilizes and improves," he said.
In response to a question about the possibility of early parliamentary elections called by his opponents, Pashinyan stressed the urgent need for Armenia now is to focus on other issues, first of all on political and economic stability and security.
On November 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint statement on a complete ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh. The Russian leader said the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides would remain on the positions they hold and Russian peacekeepers would be deployed to the region. Besides, Armenia and Azerbaijan should carry out the exchange of prisoners of war and the bodies of those killed. Aghdam region will be returned to Azerbaijan before November 20, Kelbajar region - before November 15, Lachin region - before December 1. Later, Baku gave Yerevan postponement for troops withdrawal from Kelbajar until November 25.
