The head of the Armenian opposition party Yelk, leader of the protest movement, Nikol Pashinyan, urged his supporters to unblock all roads in the country at 16:00 Moscow time to allow the demonstrators to attend the evening rally.
"I urge you to unblock all the roads so that people can come to the rally (at 18.00 Moscow time)," Pashinyan said in a video message on his Facebook page.
He stressed that the protest actions held today were unprecedented. "There were practically no open roads left in Armenia today," RIA Novosti cited Pashinyan as saying.
Protests resumed in Armenia this morning after the parliament rejected opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan as the prime minister. Another attempt to elect the Armenian prime minister will be make on May 8.
Protests against the election of former President Serzh Sargsyan as Armenia's Prime Minister have started on April 13. The opposition accused Sargsyan, who was twice elected president, of poor governance and deterioration of economic situation in the country. Despite the protests, the Armenian Parliament elected Sargsyan as Head of the Cabinet on the same day. On April 23, Sargsyan resigned amid continuing protests.
