Turkish police have taken into custody a passenger after receiving information of a plan to smuggle jewelry into the country from Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen airport.
While checking a box which the person had taken from the airport’s cargo space, police found in it 5.5 kg raw emerald. It became clear that the raw emerald had been made at Kapalicarsi Trade Center and brought to the airport to be smuggled, APA reports.
The seized emerald is worth 1 million dollars.
After being interrogated, the person was sent to Istanbul’s Migration Service to be deported.
