The ISIS terrorist group (banned in Russia) is "re-surging" in Syria less than five months after U.S. President Donald Trump declared the terror group's caliphate there had been 100% defeated, according to a new Pentagon inspector general's report on the fight against ISIS.
"Despite losing its territorial 'caliphate,' the ISIS solidified its insurgent capabilities in Iraq and was re-surging in Syria," the report warned.
The report from the lead inspector general for Operation Inherent Resolve, Glenn Fine, covers the period April 1 to June 30, 2019.
The ISIS group has been able to "regroup and sustain operations" in the two countries partially because local forces "remain unable to sustain long-term operations, conduct multiple operations simultaneously, or hold territory that they have cleared," CNN reported.
The official report also highlighted that it is now harder for the US military to advise their local allies on the ground. Furthermore, Washington is no longer able monitor the camps for displaced persons which are now reportedly being over-run by the ISIS group and proving fertile recruiting ground.
