Perincek wins Armenian genocide case against Switzerland

Today the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has made a judgment in the case of Perincek v Switzerland, ruling that Switzerland violated Dogu Perincek's right to freedom of speech under Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

Ten years ago the leader of the Labor Party of Turkey, Dogu Perincek, stated at a conference in Switzerland that “the genocide of the Armenians” in the Ottoman Empire was “an imperialist lie.” The Association Switzerland-Armenia sued him for this.

"The Armenian genocide is a great lie. Now Europe understands it. The events of 1915 in Ottoman Turkey are not similar to the Holocaust. This decision is of great importance for Turkey," Vesti.az cited Perincek as saying.
