Russia has not suggested that Syrian President Bashar Assad resign, the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov stated.
"No, that's not true," he said, commenting on recent media reports.
Today, the Financial Times, citing unnamed Western intelligence sources, reported that the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces, Igor Sergun, allegedly travelled to Damascus at the request of President Vladimir Putin, in order to propose that Assad leave the post of President of Syria. According to the Financial Times, Assad refused to do it.
