U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo believes that Washington may offer an alternative to the World Health Organization (WHO) because it allegedly failed to cope with the spread of COVID-19.
When asked by the journalist about the plans of the American administration to create a new organization with the functions of WHO, Pompeo replied that the White House is now evaluating “what further actions are best.”
"The president has set a clear goal for us: we must not allow WHO to fail again. It is unacceptable for WHO to receive hundreds of millions of U.S. dollars if it does not fulfill its tasks," Fox Business cited him as saying.
According to Pompeo, the American side intends to "find a way" in which the United States, "as always, would be a leader in developing measures in the field of international health."
On April 14, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Washington was cutting off WHO funding because the organization allegedly made mistakes and hid coronavirus spread data.
