Boris Johnson’s appointment as Britain’s foreign secretary will be good for better relations with Russia, the Chairman of Russia’s State Duma foreign affairs committee, Alexey Pushkov, said.
"Boris Johnson has become head of Britain’s Foreign Office. I would like to believe that he will not have a painful anti-Russian syndrome of his predecessor," Pushkov tweeted.
At the same time, the lawmaker expressed criticism of former Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond’s activities.
"Unlike foreign ministers of France, Germany and Italy, Hammond totally rejected any ties with Russia. As a result, London found itself behind both on Syria and Ukraine," TASS cited him as saying.
On July 13, Boris Johnson, the former London mayor and leader of the Leave campaign, was made foreign secretary of the United Kingdom by new Prime Minister Theresa May.
Johnson has replaced Philip Hammond who becomes chancellor.
